The main town of Mafia Island is limited to a few houses, an administrative district and a fishermen's islet on the beach. Tin houses line dusty tracks. Apart from the central market, which is pleasant to visit, a small fishing port and a lively beach, there is nothing to do. We like the authentic atmosphere which reigns at the time of the exit of the classes, when the muezzin calls with the prayer, when the fishermen return from the broad with the port. In the evening, one or two bars are often alive with singers, and even traditional taarab players at weekends. To extend the evening, clubs open their doors until dawn.
