Truxton was founded in 1951, when Donald Dilts and Clyde McCune built a gas station and added a café to accommodate Route 66 travelers. Soon, other establishments sprang up. One of these was the Frontier Motel and Cafe, which Alice Wright built in the same decade. Everything is now almost completely gone except for a few scattered homes, Truxton Station and the Frontier Motel and Cafe across the street. By 2022, its sign had recently been restored. However, it is still extremely aging and Truxton's survival is hanging by a thread.
