Halltown, located on old Route 66, is a small village in Lawrence County, about 21 miles west of Springfield. After the Osage Indians moved from Missouri to Oklahoma, this area was first settled in the 1830s. Rock Prairie Cemetery, also called Halltown Cemetery, just south of town along State Highway Z, was established in 1838. Until recently, one would stop in Halltown for the Whitehall Mercantile, part antique store, part bric-a-brac. Unfortunately, the latter remains closed since 2017, with no reopening date ever announced
