Bourbon's history dates back to the late 1800s, when settlers would go to a General Store along the railroad tracks for supplies. Legend has it that barrels of bourbon whiskey kept outside allowed for quick identification of the General Store. Originally called St. Cloud, the village that grew up nearby soon took the name Bourbon. Today, Bourbon is a simple crossing point on Route 66 The small town of 1,500 people is easy to get through. In the center of town, the shiny police cars parked in front of the sheriff's office can be a photo opportunity.
