Nestled in a fertile valley in the foothills of the Zuni Mountains, 56 miles southwest of Grants and 44 miles southeast of Gallup, the community of 400 is bordered on the west by the Zuni Reservation and on the south by the Ramah Navajo Reservation. Founded in 1882, it was one of 50 settlements established in New Mexico Territory by Mormon pioneers in the late 1800s. The community was named after an Old Testament village in the Book of Joshua. A small museum in a period house presents the history and heritage of the valley and Ramah. Ice Cave & Bandera Volcano and El Moro National Monument are nearby.
