On the road to Zaghouan, the ancient Punic city of Uthina corresponds today to the agricultural territory of Oudhna, which stretches between the Jebel Ressas, the Jebel Bou Kornine and the Oued Meliane. Already yesterday, the fertility of its soils made it a dynamic rural region. The indigenous origins of the city were long ignored. It was probably a city of suffetes, a Berber-Punic agglomeration transformed into a colony at the time of Octavian-Augustus; in the first century A.D. in any case, Pliny the Elder places it among the oldest colonies in Africa. The archaeological site of Oudhna finally opened its doors to the public in 1999.
