The capital of Vanuatu, Port-Vila is a small urban area with a population of 44,000 but with a population of over 70,000 people, including peri-urban areas. The pleasantly Oceanian city extends along the sea by a beautiful and long well-designed promenade. It remains under construction as a result of tourism-related real estate construction and prospers thanks to the foreign financial manna, often Chinese or Australian, but also New Caledonian. It has financial services from a small tax haven. Economic activity is concentrated on the axis linking the airport to the centre, which is limited to a main street where hotels and shops are located. The circulation of the minibuses is incessant in a permanent good mood and a sympathetic mess. The centre of this carousel is the main market, colourful, lively and really typical. It has a Bauerfield International Airport and a port that receives small container ships, local coastal vessels in various colours, rusty sticks, and white liners from Australia with beer-drinking tourists. While the city itself is not of major interest during a stay in Vanuatu, it is worth visiting and is a pleasant and ideal base at the beginning, end of your stay and during your stops between the islands. Excursions are organized there, whether to Efaté or to the other islands of Vanuatu.
