At the bend in the river Dziroula, a little lost, rises a site deserving a detour, or at least a stopover. The monastic complex of Oubisi (French Oubissa) looks like a fortress. Dated 820, the site, with its fascinating four-storey tower, still seems to be waiting for the assailants. This monastery cannot be compared to any other, it is unique. Its frescoes, adorning the walls, are wonders that have successfully survived the centuries. Well preserved, they embody one of the most beautiful achievements of religious art. According to tradition, they are painted by a native artist. These frescoes decorating the building from floor to ceiling, of exceptional refinement and quality, are masterpieces.
