Located less than 80 km from the capital, this protected area first conceived as a hunting reserve in 1938 became a national park in 1957. This park with natural limits to the west with the Atlantic Ocean, to the north with the river Kwanza from its mouth to Muxima, and to the south with the river Longa, extends over 9 600 km 2 and offers a wide variety of vegetation and landscape covers. Beautiful baobabs! Great efforts have been made for a decade with the reintroduction of wild fauna decimated during the years of war. Guided tours of two hours are offered to visitors to observe the animal species present in the park; giraffes, elephants, élands, ostriches, zebras, large koudous, wildebeests, different antelopes species (large, common and dwarfs).According to Paul Wesson of Eco Tur, «a visit to Kissama is an excellent way to spend less than two hours, from urban hell to the enchantment of the African bush».
