Travel Guide El Maitén

El Maitén is a small town located on the right bank of the Chubut River, crossed from one side to the other by the old Route 40. In its glorious past, Maiten was an important crossing point in Patagonia: El Viejo Expreso Patagonico, or in other words, the Patagonian Express, which used to connect Esquel with Ingeniero Jacobacci, used to stop here. Nicknamed La Trochita, this relic has been superbly maintained and preserved. You can even hop over and explore the steppe landscape through the windows of the old carriages: during the summer season, La Trochita is back on the road and offers 2h45 sightseeing tours from the Estacion El Maiten
