Jervis Bay Territory is a self-governing landlocked territory in New South Wales, south of Jervis Bay. Purchased by the government in 1915 to provide sea access to the federal capital, Canberra, it was incorporated into the Australian Capital Territory until 1989, when it became self-governing. Jervis Bay Territory is administered by the Department of Regional Australia and the two national parks (Booderee and Jervis Bay). It includes Jervis Bay Village (and the Navy school), Green Patch and Wreck Bay Village, with a population of less than 1,000. Booderee National Park is home to botanical gardens.
