This museum, housed in the former Sainte-Claire convent, is a must-see when visiting Château-Chinon.

Requested by François Mitterrand and housed in the former Sainte-Claire convent built in the 18th century, this museum (inaugurated in 1986) houses the official and personal gifts received by the President of the Republic and former mayor of Château-Chinon during his two terms in office. This is an opportunity to discover paintings, furniture, tapestries, silverware and handicrafts from the four corners of the globe. Since 2019, due to its renovation and the creation of a museum city, the museum has been closed. It will reopen in spring 2025 within the Cité des Présents.

Incroyable !
Cette visite a dépassé nos espérances. Le musée est vraiment incroyable ! Sur plusieurs niveaux, nous avons pu découvrir un véritable trésor accumulé par François Mitterand au long de son 1er septennat (il manque le second). Les cadeaux qui lui ont été offerts sont réellement impressionnants. Un musée regroupant tous ces objets, bijoux, tableaux et autres devait vraiment voir le jour. Partager ces merveilles tombe sous le sens.

De tout dans ce musée, quelques horreurs mais aussi quantité d'objets magnifiques, témoins de la richesse de l'artisanat de nombreux pays.
De plus ce musée est installé dans un très beau bâtiment ancien. Peut même intéresser les enfants.
