The island is 60 km long and 8 km wide. In the 18th century, copper was found here, hence its name "Medny" (copper). During the Soviet period, scientists settled there to study the territory. The island is uninhabited, which helps to preserve the unique nature. High hills, sea-sculpted caves, cliffs, waterfalls and canyons form breathtaking landscapes. It is a paradise for bird colonies on the cliffs and for marine mammals lying on the beaches. The seabed is also exceptionally beautiful.
