The Mulanje massif is one of the highest in southern Africa. This 650 km² plateau, renowned for its spectacular and dramatic landscapes, hiking trails, waterfalls and majestic circuses, is a hiker's paradise. You can go on multi-day treks and sleep in shelters. At an altitude of just over 3,000 metres, Sapitwa Peak is the highest point of this colossal massif with its steep rock faces. This summit, like the one in Chambe, is a delight for climbing fans. The mountain is often enveloped in a light mist, above which the highest peaks can be observed, hence its nickname "island in the sky".Walking in the mountains, you leave behind you the tropical climate of Malawi and enter a temperate zone reminiscent of the mild European climate. The landscape is magnificent: dense tropical forests (where some Mulanje cypresses still live), heather, but also abyssal crevasses, basins and ravines dug by fast torrents. A great show!
