Perched 1,300 meters above sea level in the hills, Livingstonia, founded by Scottish missionaries under the leadership of Dr. Robert Laws in the late 19th century, is one of the most impressive towns in Malawi. The breathtaking views of the lake are breathtaking. The town still retains some traces of the passage of the Scots who established the Livingstonia mission in 1894, after they left Cape Maclear because of the high rate of malaria. Livingstonia is well worth a visit, as much for its fabulous location as for its history. Several hikes can be done in the surrounding area.
