Likoma Island, 8 km long and 3 km wide, is the larger of the two islands in Lake Malawi (the other being Chizumulu). It is a piece of Malawi encircled by Mozambican territorial waters. Its history is closely linked to the presence of the Anglican mission in the 19th century. Today, its isolation and exotic beauty still attract few tourists. The island remains strangely little known despite its paradisiacal white sand beaches, its fishy waters (500 species of fish) and its splendid creeks, covered with baobabs and mango trees. Its inhabitants, extremely cordial, make of it an exotic and unusual destination.
