It is one of the island's least populated parishes. The disasters of the Cabeço do Fogo volcano in 1672 and the Capelinhos volcano in 1958 completely destroyed the area. The starting and finishing point of 2 hiking trails (PRC2 FAI-PR3 FAI), Praia do Norte offers little else of tourist interest. However, it does offer a panoramic view of the succession of craters in the center of the island, and the beautiful Miradouro das Cabras just before reaching the village, which offers a breathtaking view of the faja below, its magnificent beach, and the Ribeira das Cabras cascading down from the cliff.
