This site is linked to Dzibanché by sacbés, limestone-covered roadways that allow for nighttime travel by moonlight. The same architectural ensemble is accessible with the entrance ticket to the ruins of Dzibanché, 2 km away. The archaeologist Thomas Gann named Kinichná (from the Mayan word kin, sun or day) after discovering a glyph representing the sun on the back of theAcropolis. It is a three-storey building , emblematic of the Classical Period (300-600 AD), on which several temples had been built. The funerary chambers and offerings found inside demonstrate its symbolic and ritual importance.
