This tiny fishing village is located about 60 km west of Mahahual, at the end of the peninsula that separates Chetumal Bay and the Caribbean Sea. There used to be a daily ferry to and from Chetumal, but the only option now is to travel along the coast from Mahahual (about 1 hour). Xcalak is worth a visit if you like lost paradises, devoid of tourist infrastructure. The nearby beaches remain virtually untouched and the vegetation exuberant. It is also an ideal base for exploring the Banco Chinchorro reserve. But if you don't have much time, the beaches around Mahahual will be enough to satisfy you!
