Practical information : Eating out Monaco
Timetable
The opening hours of Monegasque restaurants are very similar to those in France. It is advisable to check the weekly closures, which can vary according to the season. We strongly advise you to make reservations in advance, as the establishments can quickly be full, especially at lunchtime. Crowds are particularly high during the summer months and during major international events.
Budget & Tips
If the Principality has its share of gastronomic restaurants, it is not impossible to enjoy a good meal at a reasonable price, quite the contrary! Many establishments offer very attractive lunch or business lunch formulas. Prices can be slightly higher in the evening.
What costs extra
As in France, Monegasque restaurants include cutlery, bread and water in their service. There is no extra charge.
The local way
While Italian and Côte d'Azur influences are found in Monegasque cuisine, there are a few local specialties, such as barbajuans (sometimes served as an aperitif), estocafic or pavés du Rocher.
To be avoided
The only real faux pas you can commit in some Monegasque restaurants is not to respect the dress code. In some places, especially in the evening, proper dress is required and you may be refused entry if you are too lightly dressed.
Kids
Children are welcome in the Principality, but naturally, some establishments are more suitable than others! Many restaurants offer children's menus.
Smokers
Smoking is not allowed inside the establishments. However, most of them have terraces where smoking is allowed. Cigarette butts must not be thrown on the ground.
Tourist traps
Tourist attractions are rare in the Principality. On the other hand, some establishments have a more pronounced tourist orientation, while others are aimed primarily at a local audience. It's up to you to decide which you prefer!
