The capital of Putumayo is located in the heart of the valleys of southern Colombia. The city has no particular interest, but its surroundings offer a fabulous playground for travelers who like to get off the beaten track to practice ecotourism. The area is sometimes subject to torrential rains. In April 2017, the city experienced a real cataclysm following the passage of a gigantic mudslide and landslides. Entire neighborhoods were ravaged and at least 290 people died
