The largest of the country's national parks and one of the largest in the world, established in 1922 to protect the last remaining bison herds in northern Canada. Today, it protects a vast area representative of Canada's northern boreal plains.Plan a long trip to the remote areas of the park, either on foot or by canoe. The large rivers that criss-cross the park offer many opportunities for multi-day backcountry canoe trips. There is a wide range of hiking options for everyone, from short family walks to day trips and overnight backcountry tours.
