The volcanic complex of the San Salvador volcano, called Náhuatl volcano Quezaltepeque (mountain of the quetzal bird), consists of three summits: El Jabalí (907 metres altitude), El Boquerón (1 880 metres), which is protected by Parque Nacional el Boquerón and El Picacho (1 997 metres). You can climb El Boquerón to admire a curious volcano located within the crater, practicing mountain biking, etc. The local operators of San Salvador propose to accompany you on excursions, with a local guide sometimes French, at the ascent of these different volcanoes, which are easy to reach by car. Moreover, a new road crosses the volcano from south to north to facilitate access by road. We are not very sure that this is a very good idea for local flora and fauna, but the future will confirm that.
