Until 1973, Sint-Philipstand was an island. It is now part of the Tholen peninsula and forms the municipality of Tholen of the same name. It covers only 25 km². Sint Philipsland now has more than 2,600 inhabitants. This village (small town by French standards) has a water tower almost 30 meters high. In the 1970's-1980's, this municipality, although very conservative (by the SGP party), had the first female municipal secretary. This very religious city naturally includes several churches and places of worship. In particular, a historic reformed church dating from 1668 is worth a visit.
