In the Para district, this reserve is located not far from the Casawinicakreek River and covers 180 km², with mostly wet savannahs, swamps and white sand forests. This wild, humid environment is home to rare species such as caimans and otters. In 1986, this exceptional site became an officially protected reserve, in order to better conserve its remarkable savannahs and wildlife. The indigenous Lokono village of Copi has just a handful of inhabitants, but its people have the right to fish and hunt in the reserve. Copi can be reached by boat from Stolkertsijver.
