In the Ba Vi district, the Tây Dang communal house, built in the 16th century, is one of the oldest in Vietnam. Built of limewood, better known as "iron wood" because of its solidity and rot-proofness, it has retained all its authenticity and is a beautiful testimony to the traditional architecture of the delta, particularly because of the peasant scenes that decorate the roof structure. 55 km west of Hanoi, the Tây Dang dinh is reached by road 32, the one that leads to Son Tây. Continuing westward for about 20 km, one arrives at Tây Dang. On the left, a small road leads to the communal house.
