The village of Ha Thai is considered the capital of lacquerware. The origin of this specialization is uncertain, but is thought to be relatively recent. A visit to the village will introduce you to the techniques of this art. Ha Thai has retained many of its original features. In the center, the dinh, the community house and a pagoda. Following the Tô Lich river northwards, you come to xom Phô, where photographers will find picturesque old houses. But manufacturing processes have been turned upside down by the introduction of synthetic lacquer, which is much cheaper, easier to work with and suitable for mass production.
