A desert territory with dry vegetation, the Little Rann is home to Asia's last remaining wild donkeys, as well as flamingos, foxes and the odd antelope. More surprisingly, the desert is also home to a few hyenas, which are very rarely seen by visitors. All these animals are preserved in a huge 4,950 km2 nature reserve called Little Rann Sanctuary. There are around 3,000 donkeys here, surviving on bet trees scattered here and there. The territory's cracked ground could break under the feet of unwary tourists at any moment, so it's not advisable to venture out alone and/or without a guide. Cotton is intensively cultivated in this region, where villages have remained traditional and authentic.
