Situated in the Spiti valley, in eastern Himachal Pradesh and close to Tibet, this small village, also known as Tabo Ka Dhora, is a special place, a haven of peace more than worth the endless hours of travel on narrow, winding mountain roads. Sheer granite mountains, waterfalls tumbling into the Spiti and Satluj rivers, terraced apple and potato fields... In the midst of this lunar landscape, typical villages dot the landscape, against the backdrop of the sacred monsters, clad in their eternal snows. The road between Shimla and Tabo leaves you speechless. The local population lives largely off the crops (apples, potatoes, peas, almonds) which are then sold throughout the country. In addition to its very arid climate, Tabo experiences extremely harsh winters, with temperatures approaching -20°C. From December to mid-March, the roads are closed due to snow on the mountain passes. Residents are forced to draw on their provisions.
