22 km from Josimath, on the Badrinath road. Altitude: 1,825 m. Located on the banks of the Alaknanda River, the Valley of Flowers National Park begins in Govindghat, a small town in the Chamoli district. Access is difficult, and weather conditions can make the journey dangerous. During the monsoon season (July-August), landslides are frequent, sometimes considerably extending journey times: we strongly advise against visiting during this period. The city was seriously damaged by the 2013 floods and has not yet been fully rebuilt.
