236 km from Delhi. Altitude: 700 m. The capital of Uttarakhand, located in the Doon Valley, is a dynamic university town with few tourist attractions. A gateway to Rishikesh, Haridwar and the pilgrimage circuit to the Char Dham, Dehradun is an important crossroads, and you'll no doubt be passing through to catch a flight to Jolly Grant Airport, catch a train or make a bus connection. According to the Hindu epic Râmâyana, it was here that Râma and Sîtâ took refuge after defeating the demon Râvana in Ceylon. The town is therefore also an important religious site.
