Typical Flemish hall-church in Poperinge with a local touch with hop cones on the rood screen
This typically Flemish hall church was built at the end of the 14th century on the ruins of a Romanesque church. It is dedicated to Saint Bertin, abbot of the abbey of Saint-Omer and former feudal lord of Poperinge. Its 40 m high tower contains remarkable pieces of furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries (pulpit, altars, confessional, organ case). The local touch is present: you will notice hop cones on the rood screen and hop harvesting scenes engraved in the stained glass windows. The Paccard carillon was installed in 1981.
