Nieuport is located on the Yser estuary, and is both a fishing port and, above all, a yachting harbor. It is Belgium's only natural harbor, and can accommodate over 2,000 boats. Attractions include the six locks to the north-east of the old town. The Grand-Place features the Halle with its belfry and the Notre-Dame church-hall. The town has a certain charm all of its own: the sea on the horizon, the channel and the Yser waterway offer superb panoramic views and every opportunity for water sports. The marina is an ideal starting point for sea excursions. At the entrance to the town, opposite La Halle, the fishmongers guarantee some of the cheapest and freshest seafood in the country.
