The Saint Elisabeth Beguinage in Kortrijk, a real city, a Unesco World Heritage Site, an oasis of calm

Founded in 1238, Kortrijk's Saint Elisabeth beguinage is a veritable city within the city, an oasis of calm listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Near the Saint-Matthieu chapel (1464), visitors will find some forty 17th-century Baroque maisonettes, the Saint-Anne hall (now housing a new interactive museum) with its octagonal towers, and the Grootjuffrouw house. The beguinage chapel houses an organ dating from 1678, one of the oldest instruments of its kind in the Netherlands at the time.

Typiquement belge ce concept de béguinage ! Pas mal pour s'imprégner de l'historie du pays, mais pas incontournable.

Un havre de tranquillité
Plusieurs béguinages belges sont classés à l'Unesco, celui-ci n'est pas le plus grand mais il a un charme indéniable avec ses dizaines de petites maisons blanches. Et cela vaut sous le soleil comme sous la bruine. Il y a une salle de présentation qui apporte un complément d'information intéressant. L'office de tourisme qui se trouve tout à côté dispose d'une brochure en français très instructive sur le lieu. On la trouve aussi en ligne.
Mérite un détour incontestablement.

agréable ballade à faire. on se retrouve dans un temps suspendu l'endroit est silencieux et désert. Je n'ai pas pris l'audio guide mais j'aurai du certaines battisses auraient mérités des explications
