HET GROOT VLEESHUIS

Belgian restaurant
4/5
1 review

In this former medieval butcher's shop of the 15th century, you can taste the products of Eastern Flanders in the form of tapas at affordable prices, that you pick with your glass, unless you opt for the dish of the day. The building is impressive. A glazed and heated prefabricated structure was built inside to eat in warmth in winter. In the summer, the tables are spread out under the roof. All products are bought directly from the producers and sold in the adjacent store: cold cuts, cheeses, mustard, juniper...

KAREL DE STOUTE

Belgian gourmet restaurant €€€

Located in an old Patershol house, this restaurant is masterfully run by young chef Thomas De Muynck and his wife Lien Van de Velde. The warm, intimate interior immediately puts you at ease. Here, there's no choice à la carte; you come for a menu (vegetarian or not) and let yourself be carried away by the chef's sometimes subtle, sometimes more straightforward combinations, such as mussels in saffron sauce and fideua, or Limousin veal in three ways with pickles and chanterelles. The lunch menu is a real bargain given the quality.

LE PAIN QUOTIDIEN

Belgian restaurant classic cuisine
4/5
1 review

This is a sign across the country. Yet we are far from fast-food chains here: everything is done with fresh products, most of which are organic. Whether for breakfast, lunch or afternoon pies or afternoon pies to enjoy bakery and coffee, we will always find something to eat for a few euros. The oak staircase, parquet and wooden furniture give the place a natural and convivial atmosphere, reinforced by the presence of a large common table where everyone is invited to sit.

ALLEGRO MODERATO

Belgian restaurant €€€

The 18th-century façade reflects the delicate, elegant interior décor. For more than 15 years, this intimate, subdued atmosphere has been the perfect setting for refined lunches and romantic dinners. To top it all off, the restaurant boasts one of the most beautiful terraces in Ghent. The four-course lunch menu is very interesting. On Saturday evenings, only the six-course tasting menu is served. The dishes are both fine and gourmet, you can't go wrong, everything is appetizing and well executed!

ETABLISSEMENT MAX

Belgian restaurant
2/5
2 reviews

An institution in the region since Max was present at the region's fairs as early as 1839. At present, it is the sixth generation that works, with a descendant of Max: Yves Van Maldeghem. Inside this beautiful house in the centre of the town, you will find what used to be the wooden hut of the time. There are also many decorative elements of the time. The house specialties are waffles, pancakes and apple fritters. A sweet discovery is a must!

LEPELBLAD

Belgian restaurant €€

Gastronomic restaurant set in two beautiful rooms with antique floors, right in the center of town. Here you can enjoy cuisine created with organic, sustainable, seasonal ingredients grown by small local producers. You can opt for dishes or tapas to share (or order as starters), which is more convivial and allows you to try several dishes. The pheasant with cognac sauce and vegetables is perfect in winter. We regret that the menu is not translated into English or French, and that the welcome is a little cold.

BRASSERIE HA'

Belgian restaurant €€

Housed in the majestic former Bourse building on the Kouter, on the border between the Zuid and the Kuip, this brasserie enjoys a good reputation with the locals. We put our trust in them, sit down, look up to enjoy the setting and set our sights on light, tasty Franco-Belgian cuisine, a handful of dishes, salads and pastas that are classic (like the grey shrimp salad with fresh chive vinaigrette and French fries) but well executed. We come here above all for the setting, especially in summer with the beautiful terrace along the water.

DE KASTART

Belgian restaurant

A pleasant little restaurant that offers a choice of many pasta dishes and salads. The place is well known to students and the atmosphere is young and relaxed, the queue is long at mealtimes, try to go there off-beat, the kitchen is open non-stop. Some of the regulars at the place say they serve the best spaghetti in town. Without exaggerating, the dishes are good and the prices are low, that's what we ask! If the children become impatient, there are colouring books and pencils to keep them occupied.

BRASSERIE BRIDGE

Belgian restaurant specializing in mussels

The institution in the district of Saint-Amandsberg, close to the Saint-Bavon Abbey, has a huge terrace. We linger there to have a drink or eat an extraordinary waterzooi. The house guarantees that all products are fresh of the day! In season, we run there mainly for mussels, the other house specialty. Mussel season? From July to Easter, pretty much! The house is over fifty years old and serves the many local beers as they should be. The right address to taste the local specialities in this area.
