ROMANESQUE HOUSES

These two Romanesque houses are proof of the popularity of this art form among the wealthy bourgeoisie in the ^12th and ^13th centuries. Dating from 1175-1200, they are prototypes of preserved Flemish stenen architecture. Today, one houses a Protestant church and the other an art gallery. Their typically Scaldian facades stand out from the other buildings. Partly destroyed in 1940, they were restored in the 1970s. The interior can be admired whenever an art exhibition is held.
