MEATBALL'S BAR

Belgian restaurant
5/5
1 review

Meatball bars are springing up everywhere! Meatball's Bar has chosen the Rue de Marcinelle as its location, spilling out onto the sidewalk with tables and high chairs. The contemporary industrial decor completes the ambience. At the table, you can choose from five types of meatballs (beef, vitoulet - a mix of pork and veal -, veggie...), four sauces (tomato, chef's curry...) and a side dish (fries, pasta, vegetables...). You can also put dumplings in soup or slice them on bread, sandwich-style. A good-natured, trendy bar.

LA QUILLE

French cuisine restaurant
4.7/5

In this local bistro, the setting of the old bowling alley has been preserved. It's a warm, family atmosphere for a meal with friends who appreciate a fine selection of beers, especially local, and wines. Irène knows her job in the kitchen, and without showing off, comes up with a few dishes in which she puts her heart and soul. She even comes to the dining room to check on the customer's satisfaction! As with this Orval beef steak, served with real French fries! While Philippe, the owner, serves bistro-style. It's not expensive, and you're satisfied and full when you leave.

CHEZ DUCHE

Southwestern restaurant €€
4.5/5

In July 2022, after 29 years at the helm of the restaurant, Duche (Christophe) handed over to his chef de salle, the young Joris Meurant. While the team has remained the same, the restaurant has undergone a facelift, with a new decor that is modern, warm and elegant. The setting is changing, but the cuisine is still succulent and well-presented, with seasonal variations, including local products (meatballs and rata) and French dishes. Very attentive and professional service. Don't forget to book before you go.

ROBERT LA FRITE

Chip shop
3.8/5

Founded more than 60 years ago, "Robert" is one of the most venerable and revered institutions in Charleroi. Robert " La Frite " specialises in old-fashioned French fries. Having never given in to the current fashion, people still don't sit down to eat. The opportunity to pick your fingers in your mayonnaise or to bite into your "bicky sauce bicky" while observing the surrounding area is unmistakable. Even more so after a victory of the local Sporting or during a return of a little too much watered guindaille. Robert is open late at night and that's part of the charm.

BRASSERIE DU QUAI 10

French cuisine restaurant €€
3.3/5
3 reviews

In the renovated buildings of the former National Bank, Quai 10, inaugurated in 2017, is at once a brasserie, a cinema and a video game gaming space. The premises are superb, contemporary, vast and bright, and here you can enjoy local beers and Italian cuisine (risotto with fresh truffles, taglioni alle vongole) with a local touch (carol dumplings, sauce with Charleroi's two beers). Well-crafted, original and hearty dishes. In fine weather, the terrace overlooks the Sambre. Sunday brunch is popular.

PAPILLES ET PUPILLES

French cuisine restaurant €€

We sit down in one of the small rooms with different atmospheres, always dazzling and most often crowded. Girlfriends' tables appreciate the slightly girly touch of the atmosphere and the menu. In the plate, we are served a contemporary cuisine that is in tune with the seasons. It's contemporary and no stutter: back of cod in coconut milk, tataki of marinated veal, pearl barley risotto with clams and fennel. Everything is nicely presented, copious as it should be and absolutely always served with a big smile.

LA MAISON BLANCHE

Brunch €€

I'm a Barbie Girl, in a Barbie World... Pink, pink, pink, flowers, plants, a dose of bling, big cushions, swing seats, chandeliers, a small dozen rooms and customised nooks and crannies spread over 2 floors and all devilishly Instagrammable: that's the decor of the White House, a former bank converted into a brunch café. You'll be amazed and the trays will be overflowing as much as the decor. Different formulas including an unusual sweet and salty Moroccan brunch with msemen, dates and olives, honey and goat cheese.

L'APTIT

French cuisine restaurant €€

Pierre and Julie De Bidart, brother and sister, have taken over a beautiful mansion facing Place de la Digue. The gourmet restaurant's interior boasts well-spaced tables, a hushed ambience and sober decor. The chef serves up generous, meticulously prepared dishes. His cuisine has a slightly fusion flavour. The choice is limited to a lunch menu (with a choice of 3 or 4 courses) that changes every week. A vegan menu is also available, as is take-out by reservation. Interesting selection of wine packages.

SOCIO-PÂTES

Italian restaurant and pizzeria

Watch out for the pun!Socio, because there are plenty of antipasti to share, and pasta, because the rest of the menu is made up of... pasta. Steven Mirelli's restaurant offers only homemade pasta, from classics (superb rigatoni amatriciana with crispy guanciale) to more daring suggestions of the day. For dessert? Tiramisu, rum baba and affogatto al caffè! Sitting at the counter, you can admire the chefs at work. As for the dining room, it's stylish, warm and welcoming. Also available to take away.
