The suburb of Al Wathba is a 40-minute drive from Abu Dhabi Island, at the gateway to the desert. It's a flat, grey-hued desert, seemingly devoid of charm, but where many locals own a residence. It's a bit like their "desert" home, where they can spend weekends flying their falcons during the winter! For expatriates, it's also an ideal getaway for a weekend barbecue, or to let off steam on a bike tour. Tourists flock to the camelodrome to watch the camel races, tread the paths of the salt marshes, admire the petrified dunes and the turquoise water of the salt lake!
