25 kilometres south of Vavuniya, 30 north of Anuradhapura, 22 north of Mihintale. Medawachchiya is a crossroads town and an important railway junction on the northern Sri Lanka Railways network, forming the junction between the Northern Line and the Mannar Line. The main attraction of the town is the ancient Buddhist temple Isivaru Bessa Gala, built on top of a rock named after it, offering a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. The site is visible from the main road and is only 200 meters away. There are some establishments where you can take a break on the road between Anuradhapura and Jaffna
