Now officially called "Nallathianniya", the former Dalhousie is located 33 kilometers southwest of the town of Hatton, at an altitude of 1,558 meters. It is more of a grouping of lodgings than a village in the true sense of the word. The principal vocation of Nallathianniya indeed is to accomodate the pilgrims who come to climb Sri Pada (Adam's Peak) by its shortest access. The accommodations are numerous, the choice can however be limited the days of great affluence. Indeed, if the city seems deserted at certain periods of the year (in particular in low season, from May to December), it is quite different during the great pilgrimages and the days of poya. Dozens of stalls are then open on the way from the hotels to the first steps of the mountain.
