Capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Territory, this city of 100 000 inhabitants is the access point to the archipelago, whether you arrive by boat or by plane. Animated around the port and the market, the city is quite indolent everywhere else. Clean and quiet, it offers a contrast with the rest of the country. Most tourists only stop here for one night before jumping on a boat to the islands or to the mainland. But Port Blair is worth a stop of at least 24 hours to visit its museums and historical relics and to soak up its community mix. Indeed, the city is a great melting pot of Tamil, Kerala, Telugu, Bengali, Nicobarese and Burmese nationals who rub shoulders in the legendary Indian good humor.
