The small village of Megab, 10 km after Degoum, is the nearest starting point for visits to the Mariam Korkor, Abouna Daniel, Abouna Yemata, Abouna Gabra Mikael and Mariam Wukro churches. It's a good idea to make sure the priest is present before setting off to visit these veritable eagle's nests. Local English-speaking guides are available from a small office in the village, should you decide to improvise at the last minute. Plan to spend several days in the area, as some churches perched on rocky outcrops require a full day's walk. Be sure to bring warm clothing to enter the sanctuaries.
