Situated at an altitude of 2,500 m and 25 km from Wikro, Atsbi is a typical Tigrayan village with traditional stone houses. As well as being on the new road to Danakil, Atsbi is the epicenter of monasteries lost in the mountains and Aksumite churches. The three churches described below (the best-known and easiest to reach) can be visited in a day, along a route of around 140 km. To reach Wukro without going back via Atsbi, take the track that starts at the foot of Amba and leads to Hayqimesal, 10 km below, then to Agula, 20 km away. From there, Wukro is close at hand.
