On September 17, 1862, the Battle of Antietam was one of the bloodiest of the War of Secession. A decisive victory for the Union's armed forces, it puts an end to the attempt to invade the states of the North by the Confederate. The record is 23 000 deaths in one day, which makes it the bloodiest day in the history of the United States. Today, this place of remembrance is a park managed by the NPS (National Park Service).
