In the north of the island, 70 km from Praia, Tarrafal is a fishing village on the edge of a half-moon-shaped white sand beach adorned with coconut palms, where a few free-roaming macaques sometimes make their home. Nearly 30,000 people live in the area, including the Chão Bom agglomeration. Anchorage in the bay is excellent, and many pleasure boats regularly visit the port. At weekends, the site takes on the air of a seaside fair. The inhabitants of Praia and the village love to party on the beach. It's very lively and everyone dances in the shade of the trees: a radically cool family atmosphere.
