The road that leads to the east of the island crosses a completely dry ribeira, surrounded by coconut trees and reminds - quite logically, as it is only 700 km away and at the same latitude - the Sahara desert. When you arrive at João Galego, the scenery changes completely, because of the vegetation that surrounds it. It is in fact a region of livestock and agriculture, with market gardening made possible by the irrigation of the land. The small village of barely 800 souls is crossed by a straight street, rua D'reita, where frescoes representing Amilcar Cabral appear. Here, as in the other villages, there is a perceptible serenity
