Klatovy, the gateway to the Šumava National Park, is considered a stopover town. However, it is full of treasures that would be a shame to miss. The town was founded in 1260 by Přemysl Otakar II. At that time it was located on an important trade route that connected Bohemia with Germany. Very soon, it expanded economically, politically and culturally. The Thirty Years' War put an end to the city's reign and Klatovy is hardly mentioned after the Battle of the White Mountain. The best way to reach it is by bus from Pilsen (about 1 hour and 10 minutes).
