In the heights of the Purcell and Selkirk Mountains, the highest peaks in the southeastern British Columbia mountain range. The park has more than 400 glaciers in its 2,168 km², 14% of which are still covered in snow. As British Columbia's first national park (and Canada's second after Banff), the park receives more than 10 meters of fresh snow each winter. The ski season runs from November to April and the valley trails open in May. Before climbing, be sure to check out the potential avalanche hazard in the area. Several hikes start at Rogers Pass (Abandoned Rails Trail, Balu Pass Trail, etc).
