South of Turnov, Hrubá Skála is an ideal starting point for hiking. You will start with a visit to its castle, which has been converted into a luxury hotel. The view from the tower is remarkable. Hrubá Skála is the largest and most accessible rocky town and the most popular. Some of its peaks rise to 55 meters. The romantic valleys and gorges that separate them are great hiking trails. There are many groups of rocks with often colorful names, and all are connected by marked paths. The mineral pillars are surrounded by forests and numerous lakes. To top it all off, there are castles perched on the top of the rocks that offer other walking goals and other viewpoints. The place is therefore superb, almost unmissable. It has quickly become the most visited place in the country (apart from Prague); in the summer, it will be difficult to find peace and quiet, but in mid-season, you will have the feeling that you own the place! On the practical side, it is best to be driven, but in season you will have no trouble finding shuttles to the surrounding villages and train stations. Also, all the tourist offices in the region produce maps with marked hiking routes
