We're north of Bunaken, close to the Philippines, between the Celebes Sea and the Pacific Ocean. With their volcanic terrain, copra plantations, culture and indigenous people, these islands are peaceful in many ways. There are magnificent white sandy beaches, stunning coral reefs and several active volcanoes: Awu, Ruang, Karanggetang and Banua. The islands' capital, Tahuna, on Sangir, is served by the Awu ship every four weeks. There are a few guesthouses, but nothing to fantasize about like Bunaken: villages are everywhere, and the beaches are densely populated.
